AXIOM VERGE
The genre of metroidvania-like games have seen many entries over the years but few capture their style and game play the way Axiom Verge does. With fantastic Geiger-esque modern pixel art and a chilling soundtrack the atmosphere of the game is great. Tight controls, a large selection of upgrades/weapons to discover and huge world full of story and secrets Axiom Verge does a top notch job of giving it a very satisfying feeling. Some of the bosses can be a little rough to beat and as gatekeepers to content that can be a little frustrating sometimes but overall I found the game to be well paced in both difficulty and progression. If you are looking for something to fill that 2D Metroid shaped hole in your life I don't you can go wrong with Axiom Verge.
