On The Fifth Day of Christmas - Hyper Light Drifter

HYPER LIGHT DRIFTER

Beautiful pixel art, intense combat, fantastic environments and a wonderful soundtrack are just some of the reasons Hyper Light Drifter is so good. With Metroidvania-like exploration and secrets galore it drew me in to see every piece despite the cool looking but obtuse map. The story is told in a minimalist way, no words (in a readable language), but flashback sequences and dialogue presented as pictures make it intriguing. A variety of weapons and upgradable abilities keep the action fresh. The game can be really hard in places (even on the later released easier difficulties) but the reset state isn't too bad. A lot of care and hard work went into every aspect of Hyper Light Drifter and it shows. It is one of the best  games of the genre to be released in a while.
