The Ninth Day of Christmas - Kingdoms of Amalur: Reckoning

Kingdoms of Amalur: Reckoning

While the title of this fantasy RPG is a bit of a mouthful and maybe a tad pretentious, Kingdoms of Amalur: Reckoning is actually just a lot of fun to play. It both follows and eschews standard fantasy tropes in both story and mechanics which is nice, giving you enough of the familiar to get to grips with the game but keeping you interested with the new and different. The combat and game mechanics feel good to play, though I mostly played as a "sword" guy and didn't dip to deep into the magic part of the game (maybe on a second play through). It's not the deepest RPG in terms of mechanics but I appreciated that as it kept me in the game and not staring at screens full of stats. Kingdoms of Amalur is also a good looking game, smooth and stylized with a similar look to World of Warcraft or Fable, the world both looks and feels great to be in. The story does a decent job of keeping you interested while throwing a few curve balls that really surprise (also fully voice acted). With a huge world, tons of content and enjoyable game play, picking up Kingdoms of Amalur is doing yourself a favor (also it goes on sale for around a fiver all the time).
